The SUV-Cam is the latest award winning colour micro camera system produced by Japanese specialists Elmo (a leading manufacture of  medical endoscopes and industrial optics). Developed in response to highly specialized video production demands it has quickly become the de facto standard for demanding crews who require a small, tough video unit with exceptional recording quality. As a winner of numerous awards including the National Geographic Adventure “Best of Gear” award and the prestigious SecuTech Award 2007 it is little wonder that recording professionals include National Geographic, CNN, ESPN Sports and GP racers on land and water. 

 

 

The heart of the system is a waterproof stainless steel micro camera head the size of a lipstick case (20mm X 84.8mm). Designed for recording professionals, this micro unit captures high resolution D1 DVD quality(480H x 420V TV lines)  for recording in illumination as low as 2 lux (1 lux is moonlight).

The worlds first fully immersible micro camera head is waterproof up to 40m (fresh and salt water) and resists deformation forces up to 930 kgf. The camera head has endless mounting options and is connected to the monitor/recorder unit by a 1.5m cable.

The monitor/ recorder unit (above) includes a wide variety of features, which makes the SUV-Cam adaptable to  many challenging applications.

 

The smallest solid state video recorder in the world is the size of a cell phone (56mm x 102mm x 30mm) and weighs only 130 grams with the battery

 

                  

 

An easily accessible record button activates and pauses recording with one finger while a unique "hold" feature prevents interruption of recording during intense or extreme movements. One-touch simplified recording permits operation with gloves, particularly useful in motorcycle applications.

 

A built in microphone can also be supplemented with an external mic,
while the option exists to record audio only thus making it a useful dictaphone if required.

 

Users can custom recording settings from many variables including resolution, video quality & recording speeds (including intermittent) 

A range of recording times exceeding 54 hours (on low resolution) can be obtained on a 1 Gigabyte removable Flash based SD memory card. SD cards up to 2 Gigabytes can be accommodated.

 

NB : Elmo recommend the SanDisk brand of SD cards for optimal performance and compatibility.

 

Flash based SD memory cards are particulary suitable for harsh environments as they eliminate the problem of mechanically vulnerable hard-drive storage/ tapes found in traditional bulky handheld video recorders. Click here for further details on Flash memory.

Frame-by-frame instant playback (forward or reverse mode) with a handy bookmark function is easy to access with single-button operation. Users can also play back their recording at five different speeds; ½ x, 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x.When in the field playback is via the built-in 2.2 inch LCD display and when back at base view footage through a TV monitor or any projection device (video/projector/computer) with an AV interface. 

Functionality on the move is further enhanced by the ability to transfer recordings from the SD card to a PC or Smart phone for e-mailing. No special software is required which makes it ideal for globe trotting.
