How does this battery differ from the unit currently in your bike?
Ultrabatt’s are manufactured from advanced Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) while the standard battery in your bike is a lead acid unit.

Lead acid batteries have been in existence for many years and remain relatively cheap. However that is where it ends.
The Ultrabatt Lithium iron phosphate battery represents a quantum leap forward in battery technology and offers the following benefits ( that simply cannot be met with conventional lead acid batteries):

What to look out for when investing in a Lithium iron phosphate battery
1. Not all Lithium batteries are created equal.
Various grades of Lithium batteries exist (e.g LiCoO2, LiMn2O4 , LiNiO2 )and it is therefore important to ensure that one invests in a quality grade of lithium, which is the heart of such a unit.

Currently the premium grade of Lithium is Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) which is also used in hybrid and electric vehicles. Lower grades of Lithium batteries simply cannot provide the equivalent cranking amps, recharge time , deep cyle or lifespan of a LiFePO4 unit. More so they are potentially also unsafe.
2. It is very important with Lithium battery technology that there is a battery management system integrated into the battery. To reduce costs some manufacturers dispense of this management system which has the potential to be dangerous as a cell could overcharge and even explode.
All Ultrabatt's have a unique micro chip management system developed on the GP and Dakar race circuits.
This microchip management system balances the charge to the cells helping prolong its life and eliminating the chances of one cell being overcharged. The micro chip also has low and over voltage protection which ensures your battery remains at peak efficiency and reliability. This is unique to Ultrabatt.
Inside every Ultrabatt all internal components are laser welded in place and each battery is vibration tested to ensure quality and durability. All Ultrabatt's surpass
EC regulations.

3. Check the manufacturer’s guarantee which is often indicative of the quality of the product e.g. some manufacturers may offer a 3 year guarantee which is misleading if you do not read the fine print. In instances such as these it is only a 6 month free replacement warranty and the balance up to three years a sliding scale discount i.e. after 6 months you will pay should the unit fail.

4. Lithium batteries do cost more- you pay for what you get.
The additional cost however will pay for itself not only in the longevity of the battery but also in its reliability and peace of mind. Being stranded in the middle of nowhere with an unreliable battery far outways the additional cost of this advanced technology.

Charger:
Ultrabatt batteries are shipped fully charged and hold this charge for at least a year. Also, when riding they charge fully within 5 minutes of use making the requirement for a separate battery charger a non necessity.
Should you however require a battery charger please note due to the composition of Lithium batteries a conventional lead acid battery charger(trickle or otherwise) is NOT recommended.
Lead acid battery chargers are not suitable for charging lithium batteries as they don’t fully charge it.
Charge profiles between lead acid & lithium batteries:
- Lead acid battery : CC (constant low current)
- Lithium battery : CC – CV (constant higher current – constant voltage )
The alternator on your bike is charging at a constant voltage and higher current making it ideal for lithium batteries and conversely why a drained lead-acid battery can be better charged via a trickle charger instead of the bikes alternator.
